MELBOURNE TRAM STRIKE

MELBOURNE, October 1. No trams or buses ran in Melbourne on Saturday because of a one-day strike by 3000 members of the Tramways Employees’ Association. ■< At a stop-wor.k meeting it was decided to ask for the release of men from the Army, so that a six-dny week shift might be worked. Lack of tram and bus transport to sporting fixtures resulted in record overcrowding of trains. Four people received hospital attention for injuries received in a wild station scramble.
