LULL MAY END SOON

Good Weather Needed

(British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, September 29. "Everything is going well, in spite of the temporary lull,” says a correspondent. “This is the impression I have from talks with generals, from General Eisenhower downward. There are three main reasons for the lull: First, the weather; secondly, the hilly and .wooded nature of the country over which we are moving in the advance against the Siegfried Line; and, thirdly, the German ability to improvize strong dofences even after they have been driven out of the Siegfried formations. Let us have a few weeks of good weather and the war may move fast enough to satisfy the most optimistic strategists at home.” Another correspondent writes: “The general feeling here is that the lull won’t last much longer—that our pent-up strength will soon explode and burst through the Siegfried Line.”
