Another Party Arrives In

Dominion OFFICIAL WELCOME A party of 360 New Zealand soldiers, sailors and servicewomen, including 29 repatriated prisoners of war from Gcr.rnany, recently returned to the Dominion aud were welcomed at a casualty clearing hospital. Travelling on the hospital ship also were a number of prisoner-of-war repatriates on the way back to their homes'. The gratitude of the Government and people of New Zealand to the men for all they had done for their, country and for the cause of the United Nations and humanity was expressed by the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, who also warmly greeted the Australian personnel who attended the ceremony. He said the men had been through much, and would find their real welcome from their own families; • The Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Holland, said that Mr. Fraser, for his party, and he, for the other great political party, were as one in their determination to see the men restored to health, returned to their families, and rehabilitated to jobs in which they, would benefit themselves and the community. Others speaking in welcome were the Minister of Defence, Mr. Joues, the Australian High Commissioner, Mr. d’Alton; Mr. T. G. Taylor, on behalf of the New Zealand R.S.A.; the Minister of Rehabilitation, Mr. Skinner; the representative of the Native Race on the Executive Council, Mr. Tirikatene; and civic authorities. Appreciative references by the Prime Minister to the kindness and attention given the party by the staff of-the hospital ship were replied to by an Australian officer, Major McGillivray.
