Capture By Americans
LONDON, August 25. American troops of the Seventh Army occupied Cannes and Grasse in their advance on the eastern sector of the beachhead in southern France, states an Allied communique. , - French forces further tightened their grip on Toulon, occupying the arsenal within the city and. the town of Olaoulcs to the west. , , , Two German generals and more than 5000 prisoners have been captured ui the lighting in the Marseilles area in the past 72 hours, says the Marseilles correspondent of the Associated Press of Great Britain. French forces today launched determined attacks against, the Germans in four remaining strongpoints. Three American columns m southern France are fanning out to the Swiss border. Advance elements of the first column are already at Evian. A second, column, advancing from Grenome, reached St. Julienne-Genevois, near the Swiss border. The third column is moving on Lyons, where the F.F.I. has already liberated the town area. Reuters correspondent at Allied headquarters in the Mediterranean says that the force which occupied Grenoble alter a spectacular advance of 140 miles, was a flying column which included eouio armour.
