CHEERS FOR RAMIREZ

Pro-Democratic Feeling In Argentina

(Received August 27, 9.10 P- m -) LONDON, August 26. A mass rally which began in Buenos Aires last night as a tribute to the liberation of Paris was later converted into a prd-democratic political demonstration, which mounted police twice broke up, re; ports the New York “Herald-Tribune s Buenos Aires correspondent. General Ramirez, who has not made a public appearance since his withdrawal from the presidency in favour of General Farrell last February, watched the rally from the balcony of his home. He was cheered by the crowd as a tribute to his decision to break off diplomatic relations with the Axis a month prior .to his forced retirement. . At the crowd s insistence General Ramirez participated in the demonstration. An official communique announced tlie acceptance of the resignation of L)r. Alberto Baldrich, Minister for Justice and Public Instruction. Dr. Baldrich was the .outstanding surviving member ot the extreme nationalist wing in thei Argentine Cabinet, says the “New York Times” Buenos Aires correspondent. During his tenure many Jewish teachers were dismissed from Argentine schools, and- a great many extremely nationalist measures adopted. His depaiture is generally regarded as another step toward the triumph of more liberal ideas.
