The National Council for Reclamation of Waste Material, in its endeavour to secure 1000 tons of used tyres (approximately 100,000 covers) betore March 31 next ’and for reclaim by the rubber mills at Woolston. near Christchurch has already freighted since January 1 through its affiliated committees approximately 500 ions from the North Island. The South Island waste committees have also railed considerable quantities, thus ensurin'’ round-the-clock production of processed rubber urgently required by the New Zealand armed forces, particularly soles and heels for canvas shoes, field battery boxes aud rubber for ‘‘capping’ tyres. In two and a half years, the council reports, over 3000 tons, equal to 300.000 tyres, has been collected throughout New Zealand. _____
