RELIGIOUS NOTICES. CH BISTADE LPHIAN LECTURE (God Willing), 1.0.0. F. HALL, ALLEN STREET, SUNDAY AT 7 P.M. Subject: "THE NATURE AND' CHARACTER OF CHRIST'.” 1 "HE (GOD) HATH MADE HIM (JESUS) TO BE SIN FOR US, WHO KNEW NO SIN; THAT WE MIGHT BE .MADE THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD IN HIM” .(II Cor. 5:21). The object of this lecture is to show that the Holy Scriptures plainly teach:— (1) THAT "Christ came in the flesh,” i.e., "sinful flesh,” “flesh in which dwells no good thing,” consequently “He took not on Him the nature of Angels, but He took on Him the seed of Abraham,’’ i.e., Adam’s mortal, corruptible, sinful nature (II John 7, Roms. 8:3, Roms. 7:18, Hebs. 2:14-17, Roms. 1:3, II Tim. 2:8. Roms. 5:12, Phil. 3:21, I Cor. 15:53). (2) THAT although Jesus was “made sin," He was also “made strong” to over- . come, and so "knew no sin,” in character He was "without sin"—“He, through the eternal Spirit, . offered Himself without spot to God” (Hebs. 4:15, I Pct. 2:22, 1 John 3:5, Psa. 80:17, Isa. 42:1, Zech. 13:7, John 8:1529, John 14:6-11, II Cor. 5:19, Hebs. 9:14). (3) THAT thereby Jesus proved Himself to be an unblemished manifestation ot’ the eternal Father—“ Emmanuel, God with us,” “God manifest in the flesh” (John 1:14, I Pet. 1:19, Isa. 7:14, Matt. 1:23, I Tim. 3:l6,'John 14:6-11). (4) THAT although Jesus was “the Lamb of Go<1” "without blemish and without spot” in character, “it pleased God to bruise Him”—thereby, the righteousness and justice of God was exhibited in the condemnation of “sin in the flesh” (Isa. 53:10, Roms. 8:3, 3:21-26, I Cor. 1:30). (5) THAT “through THIS MAN is preached unto .you the forgiveness of sins, • aud by Him all that believe are justified from all things” (Acts 13:38-39, Acts 10:43, Eph. 1:7, John 14:6, Acts 4:12, Hebs. 7:25, I John 1:7, etc.).
