Dominion Special Service. AUCKLAND, July 23. A smart three furlongs by Tiger Lan and Rara Avis was easily the best gallop nt Ellerslie on Saturday, when the No. J grass was in use-and the going was heavy. Tiger Tan and Rara Avis ran 3S 4-o and both went very well. Tiger Pan is full ot condition and Rare Avis is coming on nicely again . , ... Lvsander's Last completed useful work with five furlongs in 1.15. He did not do as well as expected in tin? autumn. The Fake reeled off three furlongs in 43 1-5. He is carrying a bright appearance. . , Commissar-and Default ran three furlongs in 41 3-5. Default has been gelded since he last appeared in publie and has made steady progress since he resumed work. , Happy Vaals pleased better than Firm Lass and His Grace over four furlongs in 55, Happv Vaals is a rising three-year-old gelding by Vaals from Queen Brlerly, and is being trained by F. E. McManemin for Mr. G. MeKeuijrick, who last week was elected to the committee of the Auckland Trotting Club. Ho changed hands recently and is now being trained by Mrs. M. Holland for bls new owner. Mr. A. Harman. Earlier in the season Homespun sprinted smartly on several occasions. . Hackenschmldt (Cleaver) was sent twice over the steeplechase fences on the flat and jumped cleanly. King’s Cross (Cleaver) was also schooled over these fences, and performed creditably. though inclined to jump high and carefully. „ ... .. Nettarion (Cleaver). Sir Fox (Sargent) and Sir Isaacs (Hogan) were schooled over the hurdles, and all jumped well. Nettarion and Sir Fox are showing improved condition and Sir Isaacs is also (Cleaver) jumped the hurdles in fln Tlie t ‘jockey. W. J. McLaughlin, who suffered a cracked pelvis in a fall while schooling Surloy at Ellerslie,on May .-<>, was sufficiently recovered to leave hospital last week, but it may be some time before he is tit to resume riding. „
