RAILWAY OFFICER RETIRES
There was n representative gathering af the Wellington railway goods shed recently to bid farewell to Mr. W. A. Finlayson, goods agent, who has retired on superannuation after completing more than -lt> years’ service with the Uailwajss Depart men I, Mr. (1. Home, assistant goods agent, recalled dillicult times experienced, particularly during 111-12, when because of enormously increased traffic and shortage of staff, the strain placed on the goods agent had been very great. Not only hnd Mr. Finlayson faced up to the dilliculties, but had overcome them in a manner very creditable to himself. Senior officers and representatives of the general stuff also spoke in complimentary terms of Mr. Finlayson, who. it was stated, retired from the service carrying with him the good wishes of his large staff am] the thanks of the department for the efficient service he had given over such a long period. Suitable gifts for Air. and Mrs. Finlayson were presented and tin? gathering sang “For lie's a Jolly Good Fellow.’’ Mr. Finlayson thanked the staff for [heir loyal s'inwrt.
