TYRES AND TUBES
Supplies At Old Prices
**Motor-car and truck tyresand tubes at old prices are still held by niany dealers throughout New Zealand/ said the Cominissioeur of Supply, Mr. E. R. Picot, last night. “Most of these stocks were manufactured before I hi* inception of tyre and tube control. Largely, however, on account of permit-holders not knowing the location of these stocks and because of a reluctance on the part of some dealers to disjwse of them, these tyres and tubes have not sold as quickly as would otherwise be the case. As a result new stocks have been disposed of while those of earlier manufacture have remained with dealers. , “Full information is held by the Commissioner of Supply, Wellington, as to where the cheaper tyres and tubes are held by dealers. Permits sent to the commissioner with stamped, addressed envelopes will be returned with a note as to where the tyres or tubes can, be procured. Since past experience indicates that cases may arise where dealers refuse to supply permit-holders with these tyres anti tubes of earlier manufacture, it should be added that on presentation of the permit to a dealer holding such stocks and on offer of the price listed on Authorized Consumers’ Price List No. 7, effective June 3. 1941. the dealer commits an offence under the Price Stabilization Emergency Regulations. 1939. if he refuses to sell. , “Attention must also be drawn to the fact that, while dealers and wholesalers may have stocks of sizes which are not being made available generally to essential users full particulars are known of the position. Till tl)e matter of supply improves, however, these sizes must be reserved for the most urgent eases only. Motor vehicle users are advised to keep in-touch with district oil fuel controllers; who are aware of latest developments. “It must be pointed out. however, concluded Mr. Picot, “that the foregoing inforn ation is published in order that the tyres and tubes known to be in the hands of dealers may be made available to permit-holders. No relaxation whatever in the issue of permits is takingplace. since the world-wide tyre position still demands the utmost economy of tyre usage by motor vehicle operators.
