Enemy Drive On Hengyang CHUNGKING, June 25, Severe fighting is going ou in the outer defences of Hengyang, says R Chinese communique. The Japanese took Leichishih and Wuchi and crossed the Mi River. They attacked areas about six miles north-east and nine miles *east of Hengyang. One enemy detachment has crossed the Lai River and is driving west to attack an area about four miles east of Hengyang. The Japanese have captured Ping : siang, about 100 miles north-east ot. Hengyang. and are also attacking in the vicinity of Siagsiang, 00 miles north of the city. The Japanese have used mustard gas shells for the third time in a little more than a week, says a Chinese communique. They fired them against Hengyangs outer defences yesterday, American liaison officers photographed the victims of the gas. The Japanese previously used gas against Ningshang on June 10 and Changsha on June 17.
