Treatment In Dominion The fact that some members of the Mercantile Marine had in recent weeks voiced strong criticism of the treatment they received at New Zealand ports in comparison with that received in other parts of the world was mentioned at yesterday’s meeting of the Wellington Metropolitan Patriotic Committee. Mr J. W. Andrews said he had met several of such men in the past few weeks aud they had all complained. It seemed from what, they said that New Zealanders received tho worst treatment in their honm ports. , The honorary secretary. Mr. V. Ward, said that the complaint was not so much a'-ainst activities under the control of the patriotic bodies, but against such things as lack of travel facilities. Mr. J. II Collins: I think it should not be lost sight of that these men are hein"- well paid, compared with the forces, for the work they are doing. They are getting civilian rates of pay. Membere expressed the view that it was more a matter for the Government than for patriotic bodies.
