New Basis Of Assessment An announcement that the War Cabinet had approved of a new scale to govern the granting of leave or furlough to Army personnel on their return to New Zealand after service overseas was made yesterday by the Minister of Defence, Mr. Jones. “Under the new scheme,” he said, “two days’ leave on full pay and allowances will he granted for each month of service beyond New Zealand, with a minimum of 28 days and a maximum of 91 days.” The Minister added that as it was necessary for personnel returned from the Pacific for direction to essential industry to take up work without undue delay, these men were being granted only 28 days on their return, and any. balance of leave due under the fixed scale will be-credited to be granted at. a later date, or pay and allowances for this period will be paid in lien of leave when pay accounts are finalized. The new scale of leave is effective as from April 19 last.
