Prospects are favourable for the Manawatu Racing Club’s winter meeting which will be held at Awapuui today. The division of the Ruahine Hack Handicap into two separate races has made an eight race card, and except iu the open hurdles and the steeplechase the fields are of good size. Park Light will run in the Second Ruahine Handicap and oxcatclier in the Rongotea Handicap. The former champion steeplechaser, r oxiana, who was to have made a reappearance in the Manawatu Steeplechase, was lame alter work yesterday and it was announced last night that lie bad been scratched. . 1 •<* The weather has .been fine in 1 almerston North during the past few days and the track is in good order for, winter racing, though soft.
