Dominion Special Service. AUCKLAND. June 8Conditions were very unpleasant for training at Ellerslie this' morning, the weather bein<r cold and squally and the tracks verv heavy. The No. 2 grass was available for galloping, and some useful work was performed by horses with engagements at the Auckland Racing Club a patriotic meeting on Saturday. One' of the best efforts was recorded by Colonel Vaals when he finished in front of Kadina and Royce after running five furlongs in 1.0 3-5. Colonel Vaals covered a fair amount of ground on the outside and was goini; strongly at the finish. He failed in his two starts at the Auckland Racing Club’s winter meeting, but appears none the for his exertions. Victory Sono- completed useful work with three fnrlomrs In 43 3-5.
