Plymouth Editor’s Action

A thoughtful act was recently performed in Plymouth. England, on behalf of the relatives and friends of the late Stoker It J. Wood .of Johnsonville, whose body rests in a part of the Meston Milt cemetery at Plymouth set aside for the men of the Royal Navy. Shortly before Easter shipmates of the late Stoker Wood sent from Scotland to the “Western Morning News,” of I lyniouth. a small sum of money together with the request that flowers be placed on the grave. Accordingly the editor-in-chiet. Mr. J. L. Palmer, and his wife visited the grave at Easter and placed flowers on it. They also planted primroses and had several photographs of the grave taken by a Press cameraman. Prints or these photographs, together with a letter of condolence, were then posted to Stoker Wood’s mother, who resides at Newlands. “There is. unfortunately. nothing to indicate on the crosses the home addresses of the boys.” writes Mr. Palmer to a friend in Wellington, to whom be forwarded another set of the photographs in case those addressed to Mrs Woods should go astray. “If w p had known there were other New ? e n'anders we would have treated all similarly. Mr. Palmer is a mem her. of the committee of the Plymouth Dominions (.lub, which has entertained a number of >ew Zealand servicemen. Referring to the ordeals his city lias endured in enemy air raids.
