COMMUNIST VOTES
"Om> out of every five voters wno went, to the poll on Saturday east his or her vote for the Communist candidates, said Dr. H. Silverstone yesterday. “Our vote of 9705 for ihe AVellington City Council compares more than favourably with the average vote of 9943 received by Labour candidates in the 1941 elections, and represents a fivefold increase on our vote in the previous election. Dr Silverstone added, however, that the poll showed that, the Labour movement as a whole was in need of a general strengthening. The question "' as Pj’ 1 ' marily one for the rank and file of the Labour movement, for the trade unions and Labour Party branches, and the solution lay in the development of ever greater unity in action between all sections of the movement. “That the achievement of such unity is the desire of the working people is shown by the fa.t that at least 50 per cent, of Labour’s supporters also cast their votes tor tho Communist candidates last Saturday ■’
