LICENSING TRUST
Invercargill Decisions (By Telegraph—Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, May 27. Because bar accommodation at the Grand and Milford Hotels may not be ready by July 1, the Invercargill Licensing Trust proposes to secure a lease of the Brown Owl Tearooms. The decision was made by the Trust today. It was stated that the Brown Owl would not be an additional place for the serving of liquor, but would be used till the bars in the permanent hotels were completed. It was also stated that the trust would be under obligation to continue to serve meals at the Brown Owl. It would be the trust’s first experiment of “mixing liquor and other refreshments. Members expressed the opinion that there would not be room for a bar and that all liquor would have to be served at the tables. , , Referring to the progress made by the trust the chairman said that he expected that suburban premises would be ready by July 1. , , , It was also announced that the trust intended to purchase Elmwood Garden, a building in attractive surroundings used for dances, wedding breakfasts and other social gatherings.
