“NAUGHTY MARIETTA”
(Second week).—lt seems that age cannot wither that die-hard "Naughty Marietta" (Opera House). Brought back again last week after a year or so in cold storage, it is playing to business that at least comes within shouting distance Of the original phenomenal season in 1934 or thereabouts. This film marked the debut of Jeanette MiieDoniild mid Nelson Eddy as a team, and It was probably the biggest money-maker of any of their 10 costarring features. "Nmiglity Marietta" still has much to eommend it. Tiie singing is superb and Eddv lias seldom been heard in better voice. Even lliougli Hie radio and amateur warblers have done their best to massacre "All, Sweet Mystery of Life.” in tiie last few years, tills number is still one of the wortiiwliile highlights of the Him. Tiie vi’ars have treated Jeanette MacDonald less ’ kindly. Tiie film is a tremendous improvement on aiiotlier early MacDonald talkie, “Monte Carlo."
