Army Pay Officer’s Action Dominion Special Service. WANGANUI, May 26. " Inquiries by the Army Pay Otliee authorities on their own initiative which led to the stopping of a soldier’s allot-, ment to his wife culminated in the Supreme Court, Wanganui, when Sydney Arthur Tomlvn was granted a decree nisi by Mr. Justice Smith against Gladys Lottie Tomlvn on the grounds of her adultery witli William .lames Vernon, otherwise known as William Brown. Petitioner, for whom Mr. N. 11. Moss (Stratford) appeared, said he was now out of the Army and living in Wellington. Their last home before he entered camp in Wellington was iu Ilawera. Respondent came to Wellington later and took up employment in a milk bar in Cuba Street, where a man named Brown was manager. Petitioner said that at the time he had no reason to suspect misconduct. He subsequently went overseas and while serving in the Pacific was told that the Army I’a.V Office wished to sec him. He was then informed that the Army had made inquiries rind had learnt that his wife was living in Wanganui with 'i man named Brown. As a result they hnd •stopped her allocation from petitioner's pay ami he. was asked Io make new arrangements. In reply to Mr. Moss, petitioner said the inquiries made by (he Army were not instituted by him.
