KARORI DISTRICT NEEDS
A questionnaire issued by the Karot-i Progressive Association has been answered by the two Wellington mayoral candidates.
Cr. Will Appleton states he is not prepared to make rash promises to any body. Karori. considering wartime exigencies, was well served with transport, and ltd representations would be fully considered. As had been his consistent policy, Karori would get a fair share of the works allocations. Transport would lie closely examined and the Citizens’ candidates, if elected, would continue a progressive policy. Plans were made for extensions aS men were available. Similarly, plans had been made concerning a trolly bus service.,
Mr. James Roberts said he felt be should be better informed before promising alteration in the spacing of train sections. The association would be given full opportunity, if he was elected, lo place information before the tramways committee. His objective was equitable treatment for all tram users. He favoured reversion to the concession ticket prices existing before the 1939 increase. Re garding the use of weekday tickets on Sundays, he would have to investigate the effect of this on a continuance of the 1/- suburb-to-suburb ticket. He was pledged to timetable overhaul to improve services and overcome excessive crowding. He favoured shelters at bus stops: also asphalting both sides of streets when a majority of sections were built on. lie believed in. adequate stormwater drainage. As for the use of the Bowen Street route for all Karori trams, weekdays and Sundays. Tinakori Road bad a claim for a service, but he thought a better means could he found to meet this than by sending Karori trams off their proper route.
