MERITS YOUR FULLEST SUPPORT. VOTE EARLY AND VOTE ALL For — BARRER AND MORRISON TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN! MANY PEOPLE ASK ME: “WIJY ALL THIS HOSPITAL BUILDING AND STEADY INCREASE IN HOSPITAL RATES?” I will endeavour to give you some answer without going .into all the >- matters which go to build up Increased costs of Capital and Maintenance. Owing to circumstances for which I cannot answer, no work had been done to increase the bed accommodation for many years. My first term six years ago covered a period that was to prove most embarrassing to all boards—The Social Security Act was showing its effect ami the people of this country were taking advantage of what they were surely entitled to, i.e., free hospital treatment, but no provision has been made for the unfortunate increase in the number of patients. • On top of this the War came with a demand from the Government that the care of all soldier patients should be the responsibility of the Boards. This sudden increase in hospital population came when building materials and manpower were steadily diminishing. A ' During the above period Labour representatives controlled the Board and to my mind failed dismally In their duty In not providing the bed requirements so urgently called for. On the other hand, the present Board lias made every effort to meet the position and under far worse conditions as regards building facilities has increased the bed accommodation by G4O. This is more than double the bed requirements some years back. I LEAVE IT TO YOU FELLOW CITIZEN! JAMES C. CRAWFORD CITY COUNCIL JOHN T. TO THE ELECTORS OE HOROWHENUAHUTT AREA OP THE MA NAWAT U CATCHMENT BOARD. AT the request of a large number of ratepayers in the Horowhcnua County, I have allowed my name to go forward tor nomination as a candidate for the above area. I am a dairy-farmer and have lived on the banks of the Manawatu River for 23 years. I have seen, and participated in flooding at its worst. Also', I have stood alone and opposed river works which, even the strongest supporters of that time, now admit, have proved futile. If I am elected as your representative, I am still prepared to stand alone if necessary, and oppose any works which the people I represent deem unnecessary or detrimental to the well-being of this Horowhenuu Area. Ou the other bund. I am prepared to give of my best in furthering every project which is advanced for the betterment of the County as a whole. £AMUED SLOAN.
