DOOMED U-BOATS
Germans Now Widely Disillusioned (Received May 25, 10.35 p.m.) NEW YORK, -May 25. The number of German submarines sunk by the Allied patrols has increased to such an extent that, it is believed it takes two or three times as long to build a U-boat as that vessel may be expected to endure on combat patrol, said Rear-Admiral Low, Chief of Staff of the United States Tenth Fleet. “Burring some development, the U-boat campaign is doomed to failure in spite of the optimistic German propaganda,” says the "Christian Science Monitor's” naval correspondent. _ T-he Alliul anti-submarine offensive, which had defeated Doenitz’s plan of mass formation; commonly referred to as the ‘wolf packs, has succeeded in disillusioning not only the German Navy but also the German Army.
