Dominion Special Service. DUNEDIN, April 8. AVith the retirement, at the end of April of Mr. W. A. Flavell from the position of general manager of the AA cstporl Coat Company, a record of 58 years serv.ee in the company’s employ will be brougnto a close. Mr. Flavell. who was born in Gloucester, England, arrived m Zealand in 1882. He entered the employ of the AVestport Coal Company at Denniston in 1886, almost at the inception of the company, ami was appointed to AVangauui in 1897 to open the company’s business in the Taranaki iUl,t Alaiiawatd districts'. On the death of rhe Wellington manager in 189 S lie was appointed' branch manager there and occupied the position for 20 years. In Ulo Air. Flavell was appointed general manager at Dunedin, a position he lias he.d ever since. He inis held office as I’res.dent of the New Zealand Coal Mmcowners’ Association and at present is vice-president. . Air James Jack, who lias been lit the employ- of the AVestport Coal Company for 40 years and is at present assistant general manager, lias been appointed to succeed Mr. Flavell.
