A pleasing feature of the acceptances for the first day of the Canterbury Easter meeting is the number of North Island horses engaged. It appears that all of them will be on the scene. Arrivals so far arc The Champ. Hine Rei, Home Rule, Silvio', High Ideal, Lowry Bay, Black Simon, Hormuz, Lord Broiefort, Royal Victor, Bridge Acre, and Tara King. Mouton Bond, Maharajah, Barrage, Master Dash., Caithness, Blue Bonny, Alcyone, Theolateral and Voltaire are due tomorrow.

The plough was also la use, and the morning’s work was equally divided between the two tracks. l On the plough Good Cast covered six furlongs in 1.16 4-5, and Full Chase recorded similar time. Others over this distance Included Retriever and Rex Maitland iii 1.17 1-5; Salary and Grand Forest in 1.17 2-5; and Even Calm and Foxhaven in 1.17 1-5. Lord Advocate and Justitla were not extended iu running seven furlongs In 1.33, and Little Secret, Renarde and Night Pal finished in that order in the same time. Irish Treasure and Waltzing Matilda went over the same ground in 1.31 3-5. Arustra and Honest Sal covered a mile in 1.46. Trueway sprinted three furlongs iu 38 4-5, and Pink Reel and Receptive ran live furlongs in 1.3 3-5. On the grass Gamble covered a mile in 1.43 3-i5 and Eulogia went over the same ground in 1.42 2-5. Others over this distance included Sascha, Royal Writ and Big Top in 1.43, and Hippodrome aud Foxeliase iu 1.46.
Royal Review covered seven furlongs in 1.28, the best on the course proper. Stavros aud Leander finished in front of Sunny .Sal at the end of the same distance in 1.29. Tq Awe Awe recorded 1.29 2-5. St. Nattar and Hindus were kept in restraint in recording 1.32. Half-mile tasks were executed by Periwig iu 49; Perjure, iu trout of Dancing Fawn and Record Voyage, in -18 3-5; Palora In 49 2-5; Qui Tam in 50; Bill Gundl and Dark Diana in 51 2-5; and Gay W’ells and Gynerio iu 52 2-5. Over six furlongs Eulogist recorded 1.16 3-5; All Night and Authentic, 1.18 3-5; Colais and Beau Cheval, 1.18 2-5,
