AIR CHIEF’S PRAISE

Record Month For R.A.F.

(British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, April 4. March was easily a record month for the R A.F. Bomber Command, and Air Chief 'Marshal Sir Arthur Harris has sent the following message to his command : — . , , “Please convey to all operational, squadrons my congratulations on . their outstanding achievements during March. They may well be proud of the tremendous blows they dealt the enemy during this vital period. All previous records for sorties and bomb tonnages on objectives in Germany, as on the targets as a whole, were far surpassed. This was achieved in spite of difficult weather and in the face of the bitterest opposition. It was the lowest casualty rate for the past 13 months.” The Allied bombers which .attacked Steyr on Sunday destroyed 115 enemy aircraft, states a correspondent in Italy. With one other aircraft shot down, Ihe day’s total of 116 is a record, for the Mediterranean theatre. The previous best total was 91 on February 25.
