An attempt, on Hie woiinrn s 80 metres hurdles record will be imide at tin* athletic meeting and marching competitions at: the P.asin Hescrve on Saturday afternoon by the Canterbury athlete. Miss N. Gourlay, whose recent. performauces tn Christchurch have in«li<-:«t«’«1 Hun. slie. is probably capable of lowering the New Zealand figures for the distance. In addition, J. Oakley, of Christchurch, a consistent performer nt tlie mile, will compete with a number of Wellington runners over Hie distance, and another Canterbury man. J. Borland, holder of Hie national junior high jump record, will also be a competitor. Twelve girls' marching teams, including Hie winners of recent marching eoiupctitious in the district, will compete.
