YOUTH HOSTELS IN HUTT VALLEY

The need for youth hostels in the Hutt Valley has been expressed by certain citizens of Lower Hutt. It is stated that the need for a girls’ hostel is almost as clamant as one for boys. These citizens have for some time been working quietly toward this end. They believe the site tor such hostels should be on Gear Island, which has been set aside for all time as a park, recreation, and games centre. It has been found, however, that the Act controlling the use of Gear. Island would preclude its use for institutions such as hostels. The Government, when aiwoached.. sympathetically reviewed the project, and promised that during the present session the necessary amending legislation would he passed.
