An Early Shipwreck
Sir—a few miles north of Manawatu Heads, and about 100 yards inshore trom high-water mark, lie the remain-' of what must have been a fairly substan tial sailing boat. Recent winds have uncovered some of her shattered structure. Heavy baulks of timber, oak, and what appears to be some Baltic Pjne, and natural knees and bends, liberally studded with substantial iron spikes, are to be found over a considerable aren. While on a recent visit a brass door luting and length of scroll work, apparently from the bow of the vessel, were discovered The vessel obviously ■ bad wooden sticks, but of these there is no sign, but rotten wooden belaying pin* were picked up. Is there any informa, tion concerning this wreck, which must Have been of some moment during the early days on this"coast?
