Port Moresby is under a pall of pumice dust from a newiy-erupted volcano 130 miles away at Goropu, near the east coast of Papua. Clouds of dust cover the whole south-eastern portion of New Guinea, and steps have had to be taken to protect machinery. The Goropu volcano erupted for the first time on December 27, and Port Moresby was, fogged with pumice for several days.
