YOUNG WOMAN SENT TO JAIL
A sentence of IS months’ reformative detention was imposed by Mr. Stout, S.M., in the Magistrates' Court. Wellington, yesterday on Lorraine Pettybraneh Jones, waitress, aged 26, who admitted stealing a ring rallied at £7/10/-, being idle and disorderly, failing to comply with the direction of a manpower officer and failing to notify a manpower officer of her change of address. Senior-Sergeant G. J. Paine said that sinee coming to AVcllluglon over a year ago she had none little work and had absolutely ignored the manpower officer. After serving a sentciic; for theft she visited, the bouse of a girt friend and, nobody being at home, stole the ring, which she pawned for 19/-. “The whole trouble wi'.li'this young woman is that, she is too lazy,” ho said. “She i£ about, the town attending dance halts, but sbe has no means, and what site requires is some place where she can be put to work." Tlie srnteni’e was imposed in respect of the theft. She was convicted of tlie other offences and discharged.
