Sievwright :— “That, Uiis council does not approve of any remit going lorward Io the Alituicipal Conference of 1944 from this council. the object of which is Io alter the existing law that now prevails for a fair and equitable system of taking ratepayers’ property for street widening or other objects necessary for the eilys progress and advancement.” "That this council should make a remit to tin* Municipal Conference to be held in February next, expressing the desire of all local bodies that the whole of the charges for hospital and charitable aid institutions should be paid for out of the Social Security Fund to which everybody contributes, and the State consolidated revenue. and that the special charge upon ratepayers- over and above such taxation should be entirely remitted.”
