Handel's masterpiece, "The Messiah, ’’ wears wonderfully well, and though it is given every year it is still received by the whole world with enthusiasm and expectation. The performance by the Royal Wellington Choral Union will lake phn-e iu the Town Hall on Saturday next, Di-eeiu-bcr .18, under the direction of .Mr, Stanley Oliver, who will have a chorus and orchestra of 350 under his baton. This performance will mark the reopening of the Town Hall, when nt 8 o’clock, the mayor, Mr. Hislop, will make a few remarks regarding the fiftieth presentation of the great oratorio by Hie choral union, and at the same time declare the Town Hall open again for public performances. The contralto solos will bo taken by 'Miss Colleen Ch,ill’s, Auckland, who will make her first appear.-im-e in Wellington.
