LOOTED ART TREASURES
(British Official Wireless.) RUGBY. December 9. In the House of Commons, the Foreign Secretary. Mr. Eden, was asked whether, in view of the certainty that Germany would fry to sell abroad art treasures looted from the occupied countries, tbu British Government would suggest that the Allies would announce that art treasures would be taken from Germany to replace the thefts of such articles of which she has been guilty on wholesale lines.
Mr. Eden replied that while the Government would do its best in accordance with the inter-Allied declaration on January • > to defeat methods of dispossession they could not. in advance of genera 1 agreement on the principles of restitution, consider car-marking any particular enemy assets Io he used in roplneement of property which, for one reason or another. could not be recovered till after the. war.
