US.A. 1 for ROPES 4 The export of Steel Wire Ropes, Steel Wire, M and Fibre Ropes is not permitted except for Ik essential W’ar purposes and provided other x/ sources of supply are not available. The 1 following hints may therefore help you to. make existing Ropes last longer:— WIRE ROPES UNCOILING AND HANDLING Wire ropes should be paid out without kinking. A eoil should be rolled along the ground—not unwound by throwing off the turns from the flat position. A reel should have a shaft passed through its centre and placed on a standard to allow it to revolve under tension. Kinking disturbs the lay and reduces the Rope-life. SPOOLING Faulty spooling causes abrasion. A Rope should be spooled evenly on the drum. A little care gives LONGER ROPE LIFE. Avoid Shock-Loading. This increases the strain and reduces the life. Use pulleys of the correct size. Look out for Broken Wires. They will damage adjoining wire. Pay attention to lubrication. See that your end attachments are correctly fitted. Where the drum takes more than one lap or layer, periodically cut off a piece of Rope sufficiently long to change the point of crossover. Il ir bitter to use the correct size and type of Rope for the particular job. It is realised that under to-day's conditions this may not be possible.
