Those who undertook the organization of the Wellington branch of “Heritage” are to be congratulated upon the excellent and very significan progress made during the past year. The report to be presented at the first annual meeting on Wednesday night discloses that membership of the movement now exceeds 600, and that the branch is in touch with some 114 children of servicemen who have given their lives in the present war. As the report points out', certain of these children have male relatives who take a close interest in their welfare in respect to matters beyond the experience or capability of mothers; but there are many cases in which the death of a father robs a boy or girl of that control, guidance and assistance ■ which are so important to youth when childhood is venturing toward adult life Heritage, as a movement, is appropriately named and its ideals stan as a strong example in a community much too prone in these times o eschew individual responsibility and to permit private initiatee obe aip planted by machine-like social organization. The plan of sponsoiship, a, on a sense of deep indebtedness to those family men who have mace the supreme sacrifice for their country, is personal. Its benefits are muffin and far-reaching. It is timely and essentially practical, in a manner whit should be revealed more and more clearly as the years pass. Ihe development of Heritage appears to have been thorough and sound, thanks to . and in service, from a still wider circle of citizens.
