Late News heavy Fighting

New Gains in Italy LONDON, November 7. Heavy fighting has developed on the American part of the Fifth Army front, where the troops have come up against strong enemy forces in fortified positions. The Eighth Army has made important and new advances, and it now holds the northern bank of the Trigno River for some 20 miles inland from the coast. Advances of up to five miles were made and three important towns were captured. North-east of Isernia three miles of ground was gained. The Germans are showing signs of strain under the general Allied pressure, a correspondent says. On an increasing scale they are using demolitions and sowing minefields to gain time as they retreat.
