EDINBURGH MINISTER
Professorship At Knox Hall, Dunedin (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, November 5. The appointment of the Rev. John Henderson, M.A., Ph.D., minister,of St. Margaret’s, Juniper Green, Edinburgh, as professor of theology and Church history at Knox Theological Hall, has been recommended by the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church. Applications for the position were received from Great Britain (2), Ireland (1), Canada (1) and New Zealand (2). The appointments committee unanimously decided to ask the assembly to recommend the Rev. J. M. Bates, M.A. (Rangiora) to the synod of Otago and Southland for appointment. A motion by the Rev. F. W. Winton that adequate and free discussion be allowed on the matter was carried. Nominations were then called for, those nominated being Mr. Bates, Dr. lan W. Fraser, Christchurch, and Dr. Henderson. As theresult of the voting did not show a clear majority between Mr. Bates and Dr. Henderson. the issue was again put. to the assembly. The final voting resulted in favour of Dr. Henderson, who is to be unanimously recommended to synod.
