Gift to Plunket Society.
The Plnnket Society, Wellington, has received a cheque from Theatre Management, Ltd./ for £143/18/-, representing the gross proceeds from the Radio Theatre Show held at the Opera House, Wellington, on September 19. The programme was arranged by the Trentham Military; Band in association with various artists, including the Maori Choir, and the concert was conducted by the Commercial Broadcasting Service in association with Theatre Management, Ltd. There were no costs whatsoever, the staff giving their services free of charge.
A fine of £25 was imposed by Mr. IT. H. Price and Mr. J. I. Goldsmith, justices of the peace, on Saturday, on Andrew Lyall Band, salesman, 48, who pleaded guilty to being intoxicated while in charge of a car in Boulcott Street at 11.30 p.m. on Friday. Accused was found trying to insert the ignition key in the car. In addition to the fine his licence was cancelled for 12 months.
