WELLINGTON CRICKET

Annual Meeting Of Association

The annual meeting ot the Wellington Cricket Association, which was held in the Church hall o£ the Boys’ Institute on Wednesday night, and atended by 42 delegates, was one of the quietest on record. The meeting decided to play one-day games again during the coming season, several speakers declaring that one-day cricket, nao increased interest in play and caused larger attendances of the public last season. The president. Mr. E. M. Lnckie, who presided, referred to the great loss th® game bad sustained during the past year by the deaths of administrators, active players and supporters. He „ s P®J’ ally mentioned the loss of Messrs.. A. 1’ . n Iren, L. McKenzie, W. Duncan, C. lunlayson, B. J. Tuckwell, P. W. Banks and W. R. King, and the deaths on active service of Messrs. D. A. R. Moloney, C. A. Briggs, A. P. Cobden and R. Crook. A. vote of condolence with the relatives was carried. In proposing the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet, Mr. Luckie .said that, despite the Canterbury associations decision to revert to two-day matches, Wellington would be unwise to depart troin one-day cricket while the war lasted. Oneday games had resulted last season in increased interest In play and larger attendances of the public. He was very pleased to see, as the result of careful management, that the association had come through the past year with a sound credit balance. The motion was seconded by Mr. J. D. Howitt, who said that the credit balance had been due to rebates in rents granted by the Wellington City Council. Interest in the game last season had been largely due to service matches. If Wellington adhered to one-day games there need be no fear but that the coining season would prove just as successful as had t*he last. The motion to adopt the report and bal-ance-sheet. was carried unanimously. A notice of motion put forward by the Hutt club to the effect that it be a recommendation' to the management committee that championship points should be filtered to allow for points being given for drawn games was ruled out of order by the chairman on the ground that it had not been sent in in the time prescribed in the rules.
