Demoted Officers
Sir, —Various newspaper references and correspondence having failed to draw any comment from the authorities on the subject of the treatment meted out to all surplus officers, irrespective of their rank or length of service, the time Jins arrived to demand a comprehensive.-state-ment by tiie Prime Minister. Let him assure the public that the case of each officer will be investigated tind relief given where undoubted and obvious anomalies exist. Will lie also tell the public the fuels wilh regard to tiie request imide I y the anihorilies in another part of ih? Empire tu send surplus Dominion officers to as.-'ist in training their huge manpower?
There may lie some very cogent reasons for the refusal. If surplus officers from New Zealand could be. used to train divisions equal to the best Empire truops. such an elTni't would surely lie a greater contribution to the Allies’ cause, than sending flic ollieers as privates tu the Middle East. Hoping that some .‘larity will soon be given to this must disturbing phase of our war administration. — I anf, etc. — KAI K’S FAIR. Wellington, September 18.
