Soldiers’ Canteens
Sir, —I listened to the broadcast address by the Minister of Marketing on Thursday evening and was surprised to learn (hat profits amounting to £200,060 had been returned to the soldiers by the Internal Marketing Depatintent. With oilier soldiers who, by virtue of the purchases in regimental canteens, are entitled to share in the profits, 1 would be more surprised to learn that one single penny has been jiaid for the benefit of a soldier. Is it not a fact that every penny ot canteen profits credited to any regiment has been set. off by the Army Department against, shortages of regimental camp gear and equipment ? In ether, words, the Government has recouped itself for defence losses at the expense of soldiers’ canteen funds. A\ h.v tloes . the Minister misrepresent the position.'—l am. etc—JUST DISCHARGED. Wellington, September 18.
