SERVICE OF THANKS
Address By U.S. Chaplain
The annual thanksgiving service of the Methodist Women’s Missionary Union was held in Wesley Church, Taranaki Street, recently. The president, Mrs. _N. J. Smith, presided. The Rev. Ashleigh K. Retell led prayers and a sacred solo was sung by Miss Bonnell. The speaker, Chaplain Darling, of the U.S. Marine Corps, was welcomed by Mrs. Smith. Taking his theme from the Book of Exodus he traced the wanderings of the Israelites, “primitive humans,” through the wilderness and showed that God working in man meant man working for God and the spontaneous building of a tabernacle for God. Such a tabernacle had been built in the hearts of the natives of tlie Solomons through the influence of missions, and as proof he instanced the great care and kindliness of the natives who had saved the lives of so many marines in Guadalcanal. The offering, amounting to £146, was presented by representatives of local auxiliaries and was dedicated by tlie Rev. W. A. Burley. A communion service followed, conducted by the Revs. W. A. Burley. A. K. Peteh and A. O. Harris. Miss B. Turner was at the organ.

A really exclusive blouse at Agnes Samson's is of daffodil yellow georgette. Three iplents either side of the front are hand-sewn witli double hemstitching’ and a little tie collar finishes the neck. Hand-run tucks, touches of liand-enibroidery or stitchery give distinction to most of tlie blouses at Agnes Stimson, Lambton Quay.—Advt.
Two very attractive mirrors at Robin and Co., 17 Grey Street, were once oldfashioned over-mantels. They are square along the bottom with rounded upper corners, about the length of a mantelpiece and not. very liigh. They are both framed in walnut with a tiny inlaid pattern —charming above a kidney dressing table. Another extra large mirror Jias a particularly liandcome gilt frame with a dull surfu ee.—Advt.
