HOMES FOR MAORIS
The intention of the Government to provide homes for the Maori people on a similar standard as for the pakeha, and a suggestion that the Maori meetinghouse erected for the Centennial exhibition in Wellington, should be transferred to Orakei, were mentioned by the I rime 'Minister, Mr. Fraser, in the House of Kepresetnativcs yesterday, when the Native Affairs Committee reported on a petition previously submitted. It had asked that the Maoris be secured m the occupation of Orakei, and that, the Government afford them aid in bringing the condition of their village and its environment to comply with the present day standard of living. The committee recommended the. petition to the Government for consideration, and lhe Prime Minister said he could promise that would be given.
