Further Candidates Additional candidates for the general election are announced as follows:— Gisborne. — Mr. 11. 11. Barker has been selected as the National Party candidate to contest the Gisborne seat. The other nominees were Lieut.-Colonei C. A. D. Blackburn, at present on furlough from the Middle East, and Major E. R. Black, M.C. Mr. Barker, who for the past eight years hns (been editor of the Gisborne "Herald,” resigned from that position in order to enter the selection -ballot. Private Trevor Lyon has been selected as the Democratic Labour candidate for this seat. Aged 34, and now serving overseas with the Armed Forces, Private Lyon comes of a pioneer New Zealand family and has had commercial experience. He has advised that he will particularly deal with soldiers’ pensions and rehabilitation during his campaign. Marlborough— Mr. Mark Walton Grace has been selected as the Democratic Labour candidate for Marlborough. A business man with farming experience, he is well known in the district. He has been a member of the Blenheim Borough Council, Blenheim School Committee, Marlborough College Board of Governors, Tiihunanui Town Board, and is at present the Government representative on the Pelorus Scenic Board. He is a member of the Marlborough Licensing Committee and of the Marlborough Acclimatization Society, of which he has been .president for the past three years. He is also a member of the Home Guard. Avon. —The official National Party candidate for the Avon seat is Mr. J. N. Clarke, a member of the Christchurch City Council. Mr. Clarke was the last deputy mayor of New Brighton before the borough was amalgamated with the city. A former representative .Rugby and cricket player, Mr. Clarke is still keenly interested in sport, including bowls and trotting. New Plymouth.-—Mr. 11. V. McCready, motor engineer, a member of the New Plymouth Borough Council, will contest the New Plymouth seat as an Independeu t.
