Manawatu Winter Meeting CLASS JUMPERS ENGAGED

The club has secured a first-class card drawn from a wide area, witli visitors from the Auckland, Waikato, Taranaki, Hawke's Bay, Trenthaiu and Southland districts. Black Musk and The Dozer were both in the picture at Ellerslie, as was Cuisinler, and they may be the favourites in today’s contest. Talenta failed at Auckland, but cannot be disregarded over the shorter distance. The hacks in the Second Ruahlne Handicap are only average in class, and those with the necessary credentials include Phalaria. Irish Fox, Crackerjack, Foxcatcher, KiUeymoon and Davilla. Dungloe, who has failed in her two starts since resuiiilng racing, hits Indicated improvement in her work lately, and may be ready Io show form again, and Noble Eagle Is a usefpl hack sprinter who |s partial to tlio worst of track conditions. The open sprint will be contested by another large field and a good early position will be an asset. Autollte, reported yesterday as a doubtful runner, has been taken to the meeting with Lotto, and evt-. dentiy it is Intended to run her. IVbackio. with two successive seconds at his latest starts, may be favourite, but he is certain to encounter strong opposition from Flying Acre, Noble Fox, Theolateral, Pompit, Bettermau, Boulder Dam, Gaymiss and Merry Vaals. Boulder Dam is a likely improver with the benefit of his Marton ’outing. Boloyna, the topweight, has been off the scene for some time and may need th® race.

The concluding event most likely will be run In one race, and back stayers with some claim to recognition include Kinsman, Madame Rachel, Aqueduct, Alchemy, War Credit, Tideover, Young Jim and Flahuluk.

Injured Jockey’s Progress. Satisfactory progress is being made by the jockey A. E. Ellis, who was injured at Ellerslie on June 5 when His mount fell in the Great Northern Hurdles. He has been transferred froni the Auckland Hospital to a private liospit.nl. Promising Maiden. Salmi, st four-year-old Salmagundi mare trained by D. P. Wilson for -Mr. A.
