Aerodrome Expansion
(British Official Wireless.) m RUGBY, June 17. The second American-built and manned airfield completed in the north was taken over today by the Eighth Air Force Flying Fortresses. The cost of construction is estimated at £2,000,000. The British Air Ministry supplied all the materials, installed the communication system, electric wiring, water towers and heating facilities. About 3,000,000 square feet of concrete was used for the main taxiing space.
A London message says that the crew of a Flying Fortress, forced down in the North Sea when returning badly damaged from a raid on Kiel, was rescued by British torpedo boats after spending 10 hours on life rafts in a heavy sea 90 miles from the coast of England. Two were wounded but not seriously;
