ARAKAN FRONT AGAIN ACTIVE

(British Official Wireless.l RUGBY, May 6.

After four days-’ quiet, fighting in the Arakan sector has flared up again. The Japanese arc renewing their pressure against positions east of the Mayu hills and south-west of Buthidaung, according to a Calcutta message. The main attack is against the high ground between Sinoli and Sunchiang, seven miles from Buthidaung. _ Facing an enemy with numerical superiority, the Allied artillery has heavily shelled the new Japanese positions. The R.A.F. continues strafing activities. A Delhi communique says that American heavy bombers, without suffering loss, yesterday attacked railway tracks at Myingyan, 60 miles south-west of Mandalay, direct hits being registered. On Tuesday 30 tons of bombs were dropped on Tn’ungup aerodrome, in central Burma. Fires were started, an oil dump was set on fire, nnd Japanese headquarters was hit.
