As the result of an accident during manoeuvres one American' serviceman, was (killed outright and another so seriously injured that he died in the~Whaugarei Hospital six hours .after admission. The hospital doctors, in co-operation ■with American doctors, fought ior four hours to save the patient, on whom an operation was performed and for whom comrades gave blood transfusions, but without avail. Four other men were injured, but arc making excellent progress. The men were brought a considerable distance in two ambulances to AVhangarci.
