Australian Heat Wave. Three of Australia’s capital cities. Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney, have sweltered during a week of high temperatures. Bush fires broke out over a large part of Victoria. On six days the temperature in Adelaide was above 100 degrees.

Relief Cargo For Europe. The first International Red Cross ship, the Caritas, was to leave Lisbon on Tuesday for America with a guarantee of safe passage from all belligerents, according to a Zurich message. The Caritas will return at the beginning of March loaded with 4000 tons of relief goods given by American and other Red Cross organizations for distribution in Europe to prisoners of war and civilian internee? of all nationalities.

Indian Ruler Dead. A Bombay report announces the death of the Maharajah of Bikaner. The Maharajah served in China in charge of the Bikaner Camel Corps, and in the European war in 1914-15, and rose to the rank of general in 1932. He was one of the three Indian representatives at the Imperial War Cabinet and conference in 1917, and a delegate at the Peace Conference in 1919. He led the Indian delegation to the League Assembly in 1930. Both in the last war and on the. outbreak of the present war, the Maharajah, who was the ruler of over 10,000,000 people in the seventh largest State in India, offered to Britain all his resources of wealth and troops.
